AI start-up

Elon Musk announces new AI start-up. The CEO of Tesla has announced the establishment of a new artificial intelligence startup named xAI. This venture has brought together a team of engineers with backgrounds in companies like OpenAI and Google.

Musk has previously expressed his belief in the need for a pause in AI development and emphasized the necessity of regulating the AI sector. He states that the purpose of this startup is to gain a deeper understanding of reality.

Currently, there is limited information available regarding the funding, specific objectives, or the particular branch of artificial intelligence that xAI intends to focus on. The company’s website, however, states that their overarching goal is to comprehend the true nature of the universe.

In an effort to provide more insight into its mission, xAI is planning to host a Twitter Spaces chat session on Friday, which may reveal additional details about its aspirations.

It’s worth noting that Elon Musk was an original supporter of OpenAI, the organization responsible for creating the widely-used large language model ChatGPT. This model has attracted attention, sometimes controversially, for its applications such as assisting students with their homework. However, Musk has expressed concerns about ChatGPT’s perceived liberal bias, suggesting the need for a model like “TruthGPT.”

Musk has also criticized the management of ChatGPT and its close association with Microsoft. He finds it peculiar that something initially designated as nonprofit and open source could transform into a for-profit, closed-source entity.

In March, Musk endorsed an open letter advocating for a halt to “Giant AI Experiments,” which has garnered around 33,000 signatures to date. In an interview with the BBC in April, he emphasized his long-standing worries about AI safety and called for the establishment of a regulatory body to ensure AI does not pose risks to the public.

Furthermore, Musk has engaged in disputes with AI companies regarding data usage for training chatbots. He believes that vast amounts of data on Twitter are collected without adequate compensation. Musk acquired the microblogging platform in a multi-billion-dollar deal, subsequently implementing significant changes that led to prominent figures, including Shonda Rhimes, Gigi Hadid, and Stephen Fry, departing from the platform in protest.
